Instructions for Requesting Access:
The So.cl research dataset may be downloaded at https://connect.microsoft.com/MicrosoftResearch/. You will need to complete the following steps in order to gain access to this dataset:

  • Email fuse-rs@microsoft.com, requesting an invitation to start the process. You will receive an invitation via email to join the So.cl Research Dataset program on Connect.Microsoft.com within a week. Look for an email from Connect.Microsoft.com.
  • Create a Connect.Microsoft.com account
    • Following the email invitation instructions, you will be taken to https://Connect.Microsoft.com/MicrosoftResearch to create a Connect.Microsoft.com account.
    • Click on “Sign in” in the upper right hand corner.
    • You will be asked to sign in with a Microsoft Live account. If you have one provide your Microsoft Live account and password, and click on Sign In. If you do not already have a Microsoft Live account (e.g., Hotmail, SkyDrive, Xbox LIVE) you will need to create one. Click on “Sign up now” in the bottom right corner, and follow instructions. Note you may create a Microsoft Live account with any existing email.
    • You will see a page entitled “Connect Registration”. Read and click on Continue.
    • Create your Connect.Microsoft.com profile. You will need a display name, and you will need to agree to the Connect.Microsoft.com terms of use. Click continue when ready.
    • Register. Provide the requested Connect.Microsoft.com registration information. PLEASE NOTE: To receive the email invitation that gives you approved access to the So.cl dataset you MUST check “I would like to hear from Microsoft” at the bottom left of the page. Click continue when ready.
    • Verify email address: if you provided an email for notifications other than your Microsoft account you will be requested to verify the email. Click continue.
  • Complete the Request Access Survey
    • At this point, you will have a Connect.Microsoft.com account, but still need to apply for access to the So.cl Research Dataset program. You will be taken to a survey form "Socl Research Dataset -- Access Request Survey" requesting more information. You will be asked to provide your contact information, your institutional affiliation, and a brief statement about your goals for downloading the dataset. We will further ask that you will agree to our Terms of Use, and Guiding Research Principles. When ready, hit "submit". We will receive a notification when you complete the Access Request Survey. Your responses will be reviewed, and if accepted you will receive a notification that your access to the Socl Research Dataset program has been approved at the email you provided with a week.
  • Complete the Microsoft So.cl Dataset Terms of Use
    • Once you are granted access, return to https://connect.microsoft.com/MicrosoftResearch/. When you first return, you must complete the Microsoft So.cl Research Dataset -- Terms of Use agreement. Click on "Surveys" in the upper left and then click on "Microsoft So.cl Research Dataset". Please review, and when ready accept the agreement.
    • You now have access to the So.cl Research Dataset Project! You will find files to download, and a discussion area that you may use to reach others who also have access.
  • Introduce yourself
    • While not required, we highly recommend you post a message in the discussion list stating who you are and what you are doing. You will find the discussion link on the left.
